CityDance Ensemble Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras interPLAY
The addition of interPLAY to our family of education programs affirms Strathmore’s commitment to accessibility and arts for all. This fifteen year-old, award-winning non-profit organization features more than 50 adult musicians with and without cognitive/physical disabilities.
Founding artistic director and principal conductor Paula R. Moore leads this ground-breaking band in weekly rehearsals to learn music from all genres—Bach to Basie, as well as original scores by members of the Montgomery County Composer’s Society—for its year-round concert schedule. interPLAY has won Discovery’s Arts in Community Award and Ms. Moore has won the Advocate of the Year Award for the ARC of Montgomery County and the 1998 Washingtonian of the Year Award.
Orchestra members include adults with cognitive/physical disabilities who play professional percussion and tonal instruments, the traditional musicians often renowned in their field, who participate in both practice and performance, as well as “Bandaides,” high school and college mentors.
