space, Strathmore is a premier art institution of the mid-Atlantic region.
Throughout its spacious galleries on the first and
second floors of the Mansion, Strathmore offers art
lovers an eye-catching and thought-provoking array of
works in every medium by artists from the region, the
nation, and around the world. In addition to mounting
its own exhibitions, Strathmore collaborates with renowned
museums and other art institutions, such as the Baltimore
Museum of Art, the Walters Art Gallery, and the Corcoran
Gallery of Art.

Nebiur Arellano: Timeless Filigree November 15, 2008 - January 3, 2009 First Floor Galleries and Gudelsky Gallery Suite
Rendered in vibrant silks and textured with layers of metallic leaf and paint, these striking works build on the depth and bold geometry of Incan carving and Huari textiles of Arellano's Peruvian homeland. Arellano's creations have been exhibited worldwide, including a piece selected for the permanent collection of the United Nations (Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland). 
Works by Alice Hui & Jane Brashares November 15, 2008 - January 3, 2009 Invitational Gallery
Discover the textures and variations of Alice Hui's wood fire stoneware, porcelain tea pots and vases, and sculptures both wheel-thrown and slab-built.
Jane Brashares' handmade paper, natural dyes, and found objects such as sea glass, stones and weathered wood take shape in her "organic art." 
75th Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature November 15, 2008 - January 3, 2009 First Floor Galleries and Gudelsky Gallery Suite
This annual favorite, now in its 75th year allows viewers to delight in the intricate detail of miniature art in a variety of media. The Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. (MPSGS) is the second oldest Miniature Arts Society in the world. All the work is original and must be rendered 1/6 or less than life size and the image may not exceed 25 square inches. The show will present over 700 works in all mediums from artists all over the world.
Enjoy fine art in miniature throughout the exhibition, and make a special plan to attend the Musical Miniatures event - an evening of music, wine and gallery viewing in the Mansion on November 21st. To honor the visual art in miniature, pianist Rachel Franklin and violinist Airi Yoshioka perform a concert of "musical miniatures," including compact works by Fritz Kreisler, Claude Debussy and Sergi Prokofiev. 
Joyce Zipperer: "UNMENTIONABLES...then and now" January 5, 2009 - January 31, 2009 Invitational Gallery
Constructed in "metal fabrics" of aluminum, copper, stainless steel and wire, this artist's exploration of the evolution of women's undergarments underscores the humorous, alluring, and sometimes uncomfortable fashions through the ages. A member of the National Association of Women in the Arts, Zipperer's works stem from a lifelong study of the design and construction of costumes and clothing. 
Potomac Valley Watercolorists 25th Anniversary Celebration January 10, 2009 - February 21, 2009 Juried by Nicholas Simmons, esteemed contemporary watercolorist and winner of top honors at the 2007 National Watercolor Society Exhibition, the show features outstanding original works by regional watercolor artists. 
Art You My Valentine? February 2, 2009 - February 28, 2009 Fall for our artist members' creations on the theme of "Love Songs." All works of art will be for sale - so treat your valentine with an original work of art. |
