With more than two-dozen exhibitions a year, educational programs for children
and adults by professional artists and curators, and state-of-the-art gallery
space, Strathmore is a premier art institution of the mid-Atlantic region.
Throughout its spacious galleries on the first and
second floors of the Mansion, Strathmore offers art
lovers an eye-catching and thought-provoking array of
works in every medium by artists from the region, the
nation, and around the world. In addition to mounting
its own exhibitions, Strathmore collaborates with renowned
museums and other art institutions, such as the Baltimore
Museum of Art, the Walters Art Gallery, and the Corcoran
Gallery of Art.

Henry Wo Yue-Kee September 6, 2008 - October 18, 2008 Discover a half-century of works included in the "Poetic Spirit" exhibition by master of Chinese brush painting of the Ling Nan School, Henry Wo Yue-Kee. Firmly rooted in traditional artistry but with colorful influences of Western and Japanese painting, this exhibition presents the evolution of an artist over many decades. 
Understanding Diversity through the Arts October 3, 2008 - October 31, 2008 Montgomery County Executive's Office of Community Partnerships and Montgomery College's Arts Institute sponsor an exhibition of outstanding works by middle school student award-winning artists on the theme of diversity. 
Drawing for Art October 23, 2008 - November 3, 2008 Celebration and Drawing
Strathmore's artist members fill our galleries with thier works in every medium. Visit the exhibition to enjoy the creations of some of this region's most accomplished artists and artisans, make a list of your favorite pieces, then buy a ticket for $100 in advance to join us on November 3rd for a terrific party and drawing. Everyone takes home an artwork at the end of the evening. Proceeds benefit Strathmore's Fine Art programs. 
Works by Nebiur Arellano November 15, 2008 - January 3, 2009 Peruvian artist Nebiur Arellano displays beautiful and lavish silk canvases. “Capitalizing on the inherent iridescence of this ancient textile, she creates intricate, layered tapestries inspired by the indigenous cultures of her homeland. The dazzling jewels of Sipán, the mud city of Chan Chan and the rhythms of Huari textiles all find their way into Arellano’s work,” (Home and Design Magazine). 
75th Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature November 15, 2008 - January 3, 2009 This annual favorite, now in its 75th year allows viewers to delight in the intricate detail of miniature art in a variety of media. The Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. (MPSGS) is the second oldest Miniature Arts Society in the world. All the work is original and must be rendered 1/6 or less than life size and the image may not exceed 25 square inches. The show will present over 700 works in all mediums from artists all over the world.
Enjoy fine art in miniature throughout the exhibition, and make a special plan to attend the Musical Miniatures event - an evening of music, wine and gallery viewing in the Mansion on November 21st. To honor the visual art in miniature, pianist Rachel Franklin and violinist Airi Yoshioka perform a concert of "musical miniatures," including compact works by Fritz Kreisler, Claude Debussy and Sergi Prokofiev. |
